I’ve never been too far away from my
family, so going on exchange was one hell of an adventure.
Getting on the plane at NAIA, then landing
at CGK, then transferring to another flight scared the hell out of me. (Plus,
my hand carry was super fucking heavy).
--- I’m not going into detail about the
flight. It was tiring, basically.
When I arrived at the airport in Semarang, Indonesia, some of the members of the OC were there to welcome me, as well as my host family. I was to stay with a teacher of this Catholic school in Semarang, and two German EPs. (At this point, I honestly can’t remember their names. This was going to be hard).
Some things I noticed on the car ride to
wherever we were having dinner:
I didn’t know that they drove on the other
side of the road.
Semarang was a mixture of some of the
cities I’d lived in – I saw parts of Tarlac, some of Baguio, and some of QC. It
was a pleasant surprise.
When we got to this sketchy carinderia-type
food place, I just let them order whatever for me. What was in the bowl in
front of me was very Filipino. After the first bite, I thought “Huh, okay, not
so different.”
After that, we went to the host family’s house, and DAMN SON, LEGIT A+ SERVICING. The house is really nice. I realized that I was staying with a family that was a little above average.
After the OC members left, I didn’t even unpack. I just grabbed some clothes, took a shower, then crashed into bed.
