Episode 30: Kudus + Fikri’s Dinner

We had to be at the big masjid along Simpang Lima at 7am to meet with the people who were supposed to bring us to Kudus. I got on an angkot, and a little while later, Kali hops on the same one, hahaha! Lucky. =))) We arrive at the masjid at around 7.20, and we find Naufal, Tika, and Iva there. (Arkan just dropped off the tarps). The people we were supposed to meet where running late, so we decided to have breakfast first at McDonald’s. I had my pancakes to-go, and when we went back to Tika (who was eating bubur ayam – kinda like arroz caldo), she said “Oh, let’s wait at McDonald’s instead”. =)))) So we just went back there. The people (who turned out to be three high school kids) came at 9am. Wow, Indonesian time. =)))

The car ride to Kudus took a little over an hour, and it was super hot. When we got to the school, we immediately changed and did the presentations. Because we were late, we had to rush things. The kids in the school were very nice (and they took tons of selfies with us), and were very interested in the whole presentation. After that, the OC for the event (the high school kids who were part of the English club or something) brought us to this room and fed us their traditional Kudus food. It was okay – it reminded me of Tinola, actually – but I thought it had to much ginger, so I couldn’t eat it. =))) After that, we just took more selfies with their OC. After a few more minutes, the guy who drove us to Kudus said that he was ready to bring us back to Simpang Lima.

When we got there, Iva Kali and I went to this, uh, makeup shop. (I don’t know what to call it. It was basically a huge store with all things girly and skin- and make-up-related). We stayed there for about an hour, because Fikri was going to have a farewell party of some sort, and that was about two hours later. We came up with a crazy idea – to walk from Simpang Lima to Giggle Box (along Jalan Diponegoro). According to Google Maps, it would take only 30 minutes, so we went for it. What Google Maps didn’t tell us was that the road’s uphill. =))) What was supposed to be a 30-minute walk became an hour-long death march, hahahaha! When we got there, we ate some really good food though, so no complaints. First decent burger I’ve had in a reaaaally long time. =))) After the dinner, Kali and I shared a taxi ride home.
